September 29 - October 3

Bacon Bears,

Focused on Today, Tomorrow, and the Future!

Check out our September Rewind using the app Animoto!

We had a great PBIS meeting on Friday. We analyzed our data and designed our Bear Bucks Store. The school also celebrated the 85th Birthday of RM Bacon. Each classroom did an activity to symbolize the number 85. We will continue to celebrate our 85th year throughout the rest of the school year.

This week we have a lot of activities! Our 5th graders will be taking their first field trip! Our teachers will be working on their Professional Learning. Teachers in grades 2 - 5 will be working on how to teach students to write for sources. On Friday, Dr. Cook, Mr. Lokey and Ms. Berry will be meeting with the Millville Police Department. The purpose of the meeting is to review the safety and security of the building!

September 22 - 26

Bacon Bears

Focusing on Today, Tomorrow and the Future!

We had another awesome week at RM Bacon! As teachers and students continue to grow their learning environment, great things are happening. We had a very successful Back to School Night and those who were in attendance learned about their child's teacher, and some highlights of the school. Dr. Cook will put the presentation on Slide Share this week. Please check back.

This week we have a few cool things going on. On Monday we will be hosting an Anti-Bullying Night for Parents. The students will be taking their Universal Sweeps this week. The results of these assessments help us determine who needs additional help in the classroom or maybe with an Interventionist.

RM Bacon School Turns 85 on Friday! We will be singing Happy Birthday to the school. I am sure some teachers will be doing activities to celebrate the school turning 85... Maybe the younger students will be counting to 85, or some of the older kids could do 85 jumping jacks, or maybe we can compile 85 reasons why we love RM Bacon. The possibilities are endless.

September 15 - 19

Bacon Bears,

Focusing on today, tomorrow and the future!
We finished our first full week of school. It seems that many of the students have found their routines, and they are feeling comfortable. The teachers have been assessing the students to determine their baseline in relation to the curriculum. I have been having an awesome time reading to the classes (I have a few more to go this week).

So far we have had two fire drills and we will be having a safety drill soon. We take safety very serious at RM Bacon!

On Tuesday night at 7:00 PM we will be hosting our annual Back to School Night. Here is the basic overview of the night:
7:00 PM - 7:15 PM Overview and Welcome, Dr. Cook and Mrs. Spanbauer (Bacon Gym)
7:15 PM - 8:00 PM Classroom Presentations (in homerooms)
8:00 PM - 8:15 PM Questions and Answers with Dr. Cook (Bacon Gym) *not required

If you have children in multiple grades, we encourage you to switch half way through. We recommend starting with the youngest child first.

September 8 - 12

Bacon Bears,

Focusing on Today, Tomorrow and the Future!

What a GREAT first two days! Despite the soaring temperatures, everyone seemed so excited about returning to school.

I want to thank the Parents who came and visited during the first two days! We take our job very seriously, and we want the best for your children.

Arrival and Dismissal:
We changed up everything this year to make it safer and more streamlined. So far the reviews have been positive. In fact, our car rider line on the first day for dismissal took 30 minutes for 78 cars! On the second day we cut that number down to 20 minutes for the same amount of cars! Each day we will get better!

Once again, our doors open at 8:55 AM and our late bell rings at 9:15 AM. In the afternoon, our Car Riders and Bus Riders will dismiss at 3:40 PM and the Walkers are dismissed at 3:45 PM.

Home and School Association:
The HSA Executive Board met earlier last week to plan out the meetings and events for the year.

Live at #RMBACON 2014!

This year we created a USTREAM account to allow us to record events for parents and community to view if they are unable to attend. We tried it out during our first day arrival. Here are the interviews we conducted. The really cool thing about Ustream was that we were able to display the real time interviews in the gym as the parents and kids waited for the Welcome Ceremony.

Here are A few of the USTREAM videos:

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

In order to help everyone understand the expectations for our new Arrival and Dismissal Procedures, we created a video to show the process.

We are asking for your patience as we implement this change.
